Objetivos

In this course,
1. Participants will explore ways to create a positive and engaging culture and learning environment in physical education through game play, cooperative games, team building and movement exploration.
2. Participants will learn and design ways to incorporate literacy and math concepts into a movement-based curriculum. Through the use of the Movement Enhanced Learning program, teachers will actively participate in hands-on lesson experiences using manipulatives to create a dynamic academic movement-based curriculum for students.
3. Participants will discuss implementation strategies for the innovative curriculum models of Teaching Games for Understanding, Skill Themes, Movement Education, and Sport Education. Through the use of lesson study and lesson evaluation, this section of the course will allow educators the opportunity to design lessons included in these dynamic curriculum models.
4. Participants will explore the newly designed Foundational and Functional Movement Literacy program. This program has been designed to get students off screens and back to learning basic foundational movement forms through self exploration and risk taking. Opportunities for creative movement, fitness, wellness and self-expression will be discussed and practiced.

Metodología

The design of this course is based on the latest research on physical education and sport pedagogy from the Society of Health and Physical Education and the National Association of Sport and Physical Education.
Through activity-based learning experiences, lesson study, program analysis and discussion, teachers will deeply examine how to best engage their own students in the learning process by developing movement competence and self confidence.
Participants are asked to engage fully in all activities and discussions and to experience the sample lessons through a lens of a student. Participants will evaluate how the lessons, curriculum models, theories and foundations can be modified and adapted for implementation in their own schools and teaching venues.
By the end of the course, participants will be asked to develop a sample unit plan by using one of the curriculum models discussed in the class.

Evaluación

1. Through attendance and participation in discussions and activity-based learning opportunities.
2. Through the use of Google Classroom, teachers will respond to prompts, videos and student narratives to understand their level of interest and understanding of innovative curriculum models.
3. Teachers will discuss and document specific ways to create the type of culture and environment in their teaching spaces that motivate and inspire students to value lifelong physical activity.
4. Teachers will design ready-to-use unit plan and assessment documents that include unique forms of equipment, space configuration and teaching methodologies.
